Scope:
A fast and robust algorithm for detecting stator turn fault of a permanent magnet machine and for identifying the faulted phase has been developed. The algorithm employs an internal machine model under healthy conditions and the states of the internal model, such as currents, and voltages are compared with the measurements. The differences are used via filtering and sequence transformation to detect a stator turn fault within 100ms. The developed algorithm is robust with respect to speed and load changes. The method has been validated on a 5-phase SPM test motor rig in USFD.
